so, any regulars(or anyone) up for possibly starting a book club this summer (or year)?  empire seems like the perfect place to have get togethers like that (the couches and comfort food/drinks) to discuss things like this. i've personally never been in a book club before but i'd imagine this is an opportunity to find good books based on recommendations from other people. i think traditional book clubs actually set out a book for the next reading... jessica setomeofree suggested that we should probably have an initial meeting to discuss what we could do at this club and really expect the types of people who would come out. frankly i think the idea is great and i think it'd be a good time to meet other regulars at empire and just share a cup of coffee (or a lovely bubble tea) and talk about good reads.

sooo.. give me a shout, yay or nay! i'll probably be at the next poetry reading (july 6th) probably announcing this to more people. XD

p.s. : everyone have a great 4th of july (&weekend)!

Now that angry_ferret is flush with graduation cash, I think he should buy everyone a round of tea or something ;)

It's good to see this community is growing! All the positive feedback is appreciated.

As for news, if you haven't gone to see Sasha's gallery, I highly suggest you do! He's been updating it regularly so if you think everything that's there when you go is it, it's not! I would post the link to his website but I can't seem to find it at the moment. XD

I also want to thank the Newport film festival crew for their patronage this week. We unfortunately had been a little too busy to really get to check out any of the films. :(

Okay, that's pretty much it for now.

Cheers!

It reminds me of a Viennese coffehouse, not that I've ever been to Vienna. I should (and probably will) write a poem about Empire for the next poetry reading.

I was there last night, if anyone remembers the weird guy who kept playing his "Down with the Sickness" ringtone before the show started. Today I had an herb chicken wrap w/ garlic and provolone, and a blackberry soda. Pocky for dessert. My dad likes Pocky now, how about that?

I'm single again because life is too complicated to have a relationship right now, and the girl I would've been dating is... well, let's just say we're better off as friends. Don't get me wrong, she's a really nice girl, but I can't get involved with her. Wow, did I just type all that?

I've decided to become a regular at Empire (my third home away from home), because it's a great place to hang out even when you have no money. Talked to Sherrie, found out about the community, joined. Even though I don't do LJ that often. Going to apply for a job (job job job summer job yay) at Empire, hope I get it. It'd be cool if I did, 'cause I love to hang out there and I can learn to mix the different beverages, why not get paid to do it at the coolest cafe-type-place in Newport? Love love love.

Love, peace, an' chicken grease. Hope you crazy mofos have fun, and I'll be back for more. Next reading I'm going to be there with some poems, and I'll stay for the whole thing next time. Sorry I had to run off so quickly.

I'm sure Alex (angry_ferret) will also be joining, cuz he loves Empire.

Okay, so we just got a shipment of 4 boxes of mochi. New and returning flavors are:

-Sweet potato (tastes like Taro bubble tea)
-Tiramisu
-Mango
-Strawberry dark chocolate chip

Also, I made a design for the girl size T-shirts and possibly tank tops. I would love some feedback! These will be printed very shortly along with the Unisex Tees. There's a possibility of a color version also that I will finish tonight.

Hey all!

Welcome to the Empire Live Journal community. I'm just going to go through a few rules and such here.

- All are welcome to post but I will be screening for approval so nothing inappropriate is posted
- Please feel free to suggest ideas for new drinks, events, etc
- Do not flame or argue with others
- Please do not post imformation irrelivant to Empire
- Feel free to post any pictures taken while at Empire but please put them behind an lj cut as courtesy to members with slower connections

That's about it for now.

As for some brief news, I would like to annouce we are taking applications if you didn't know already but hiring probably won't take place until mid June. Air conditioning will be installed very soon as you've all noticed the weather is getting hotter. We'll hopefully be welcoming some new cold drinks this month. Empire shirts will be available within the next few weeks with a logo designed by yours truly. Lastly, another poetry reading will be taking place this coming wednesday as well as every other wednesday. Please bring your writing for open mic!
